A Mk1 version of the Drummond Hand Shaper. You can tell it is one of the first by the table which has a number of 3/8 BSW tapped holes rather than tee slots. The excellent Lathes etc., etc., website (the address of which ebay would strip out of the listing) can give you more technically authoritative information than I can. However, this one is in excellent condition and has been used successfully by me on a wide range of tasks including cutting splines on a 600mm shaft and an making otherwise obsolete blade clamp for a Bosch recip. saw. All the slides are in excellent condition and once adjusted, the ram moves easily and smoothly. The Clapper Box is not significantly worn, holding the cutting tool straight and true. The machine has obviously been very well looked after by previous owners and has not been ‘improved’ or messed about with although it looks like it has been partially repainted at some point. After I bought it some years ago, the only significant maintenance I carried out was to replace the ‘Hotch Potch’ of Gib Strip adjusting screws with original BA and BSW grub screws. The sharp eyed amongst you might notice that the vertical slide screws are not the same size and I suspect that one of them has been re-tapped at some point. You might also notice as I did that one nut is missing from one of the ram adjusting screws. That has been replaced. Be aware that this machine requires that a hole be cut through the bench to which it is mounted as the vertical adjustment screw drops down with the table. Not including the operating lever, the overall approx. dimensions are: width, 18” (460mm) depth, 20” (510mm) height, 18” (460mm)

I now have other machines which can do all that this one can do and as I am running out of space, reluctantly I have decided to sell it. It’s a lovely machine to look at and to use but the arthritis in my shoulders tipped the scale against it. Oh, and only the shaper is for sale. The B&D bench it is sitting on is NOT included.

Collection only please. Under no circumstances will I commit this to a courier. Please do not ask! The chance of damage is far too great. In transit it is very unstable having no flat sides and requires careful wedging to keep it still. And it weighs a lot, approx. 37 Kg. Payment via ebay only please.

Boring Stuff! I believe that I have described, accurately and in detail, the condition / operation etc. of the items I offer for sale and I consider the photos an important part of the description. I am perfectly happy to answer any questions via ebay messages. If, after all this, you are still not 100% sure about an item, please do not bid on it. I will only accept returns, at the buyer’s expense, if there is a significant and objective error in my description or some fault that will affect the operation of the item that is not apparent in the photographs. I pack items well and cannot be held responsible for damage or loss in transit. As far as I am concerned, ebay only works if both parties are happy with the transaction. If you do bid and win, as far as I am concerned you have bought the item and I will make every effort to pursue payment. I have dealt with and have met some great people through ebay. I have also experienced a couple of unpleasant individuals. I do not want to deal with any more!
