On offer is a vintage vase made by the Saunders pottery on the Isle of Wight, England in the 1930s.

The Isle of Wight Handcraft Pottery was founded in 1926 by Samuel Saunders. Red local clay was used, decorated with coloured leadless glazes. The designs were always simple and usually abstract. A coloured glaze at the rim that would run down the sides of the pots gave a wavy effect was often used. Hulbert, Samuel's son, took over after his father's death in 1933, but in 1938 he decided to close. This vase has mottled red & blue glazes merging to give a unique finish.

The vase is 19.5cm tall by 16.5cm in diameter at the lower shoulder, 10cm across the rim and is in good condition free from cracks but does have a small chip to the base. On the underside are the Saunders pottery mark and the shape & colour numbers Q/150/4. The unpackaged weight is 1320 grams.

Thank You - For Looking

Condition: The majority or our items are either Old, Second Hand or Both and as a result they may have signs of wear and tear commensurate with age or use that you wouldn't see on a brand-new item. We always describe the items accurately, to the best of our knowledge but we are not experts or infallible and may miss something. So, if you have any questions, please contact us before bidding.

As there is widespread confusion about the difference between chips, nicks, hairlines, or cracks. Here is how we see it:

A nick is a tiny bit of damage smaller than 1mm and a chip is something you can see with the eye; a hairline runs over the surface glazing but not the body of the item and a crack runs through the body of the item, usually weakening its structure.
