John Yates & Sons trademarked their "Virginian Silver" from 1884. This was their own metal formula! It is not Sterling Silver or silver plate. See their advertisement reproduced in our photographs, which states:-
"Spoons, Forks etc., made of this metal are well known for their great Durability and Silvery Whiteness, being the same white colour throughout, and each Article is stamped with their initials".
This makes this little spoon rather an interesting piece for a collector!
