About Us
AMERICA’S OLDEST PAWN SHOP
L. Oppleman Pawn Shop was founded in Lynchburg, VA by Jacob and Lena Oppleman. The store was named after Lena Oppleman in 1890. Their son, Ike Oppleman, took over operations during the 1920’s.

A young man named Aaron Somers began working at the pawn shop in the 1930’s and fell in love with the business. After Ike’s passing, Aaron acquired L. Oppleman and continued the legacy. He chose to maintain the prestigious name of L. Oppleman, which quickly became a staple in Lynchburg, VA. Eventually, Aaron’s son, David inherited the business, who made the store Lynchburg’s leading pawn shop. Following family tradition, David’s son, Ryan, now runs the day to day operations. In 2016, Ryan facilitated the acquisition of King Pawn on Campbell Ave in Lynchburg, VA. Since then, our second location has grown to become just as integral to our community as its’ parent store.

Guns, gold and guitars are staples in the pawn industry. However, we also offer a wide variety of other consumer products including, but not limited to, electronics, ammo, musical instruments and so much more! As America’s Oldest Pawn Shop, we strive to represent the pawn industry and serve our community with integrity.
