Offered for your consideration is a vintage BARLOW Windproof No. 17592 lighter, manufactured in Japan c.1960. This lighter features a chrome-plated metal case and features a promotion for VASCOLOY-RAMET CORP, a prominent U.S. machine tool maker of the past. It’s a blatant copy of a full-sized ZIPPO lighter!

So, please have a look at my large photos and read the remaining description to decide if this BARLOW lighter should be yours.

This BARLOW Windproof is in relatively clean, good condition. It measures 2 3/16” tall by 1⅜” wide by ½” thick. The case has no dents or deep scratches, but shows plenty of tiny nicks and scuffs from use over the years, as pictured. Also, the chimney has snuffer scuffs and the sides of the insert have lost some of their plating down to base metal. Plus, the halves line up properly and the hinge is good with just a bit of wiggle to the snuffer.  And, the V-R promo graphic looks nice but has lost some lettering enamel.  Overall, it presents fairly well, but is more of a lighter to be used instead of doted over in a display cabinet!

Most importantly, I gave the lighter some minor servicing to get it ready for action. The flint tube was blocked with degraded, rock-hard flint residuals as typical of a lighter that sat unused for many years. I carefully cleaned the flint tube with a small screwdriver, then installed a new flint and verified strong spark. Then I pulled the wick up by several mm with hemostats and snipped off the worn, frayed tip. Lastly, I gave it a sparse fill of yellow-bottle Ronson lighter fluid and it fired right up. It works very nicely, reliably once again!

As pictured and described, this vintage BARLOW Windproof lighter is offered at a competitive price.
