Viking New Martinsville Cake Plate Meadow Wreath Etching Clear Crystal 1926-1944
DESCRIPTION: This beautiful, very large cake plate manufactured in clear crystal on the Radiance Raindrop blank #42 was etched with the Meadow Wreath pattern. The meadow wreath etching on the clear crystal is so elegant and the raindrops are particularly fascinating.
CONDITION: Although classified as used, the condition of this New Martinsville Glass Company cake plate is superb. We can find no defects or damage. However, in the center, there are some minor age-appropriate use scratches. There are no chips, nicks, cracks, hairlines, or rubbings. (See the photos to judge for yourself.)
DIMENSIONS: The cake plate has a height of 7/8". The stable base has a diameter of 6". This cake plate is very large with an overall diameter of 14 7/16". (We will ship it well padded in a 4x16x16 box.)
HISTORY/MARKS: The New Martinsville Glass Company was an American manufacturer of decorative glass products in New Martinsville, West Virginia. New Martinsville Glass Co. was founded in 1900 by Mr. Mark Douglas and George Matheny. Plant construction was started in 1900 with the first glass production on June 21, 1901. In March 1907, the New Martinsville plant was destroyed by flood and fire. By October 1907, the plant was rebuilt and was back in operation. In mid 1944, the firm changed its name to Viking Glass Company which operated until 1986. In 1987, Kenneth Dalzell, a former president of Fostoria Glass Company, purchased the factory and renamed it Dalzell-Viking. Production ceased in 1998. According to Cathy & Gene Florence’s Elegant Glassware of the Depression Era, 13th edition, the Meadow Wreath cake plate was manufactured from 1926-1944.
