An incredible original WW1 British War Office document entitled....

"SECRET"

"USE OF RIFLE AND MACHINE-GUN FIRE BY TROOPS ON BOARD AGAINST ENEMY SUBMARINES OR TORPEDO CRAFT".

"ORDERS FOR THE OFFICER COMMANDING TROOPS ON TRANSPORTS"

As unlikely as it sounds, this document sets out instructions for British Army Commanding Officers overseeing troops on vessels bound for the front. It advises them in relation to the use of rifles and machine guns against enemy attack vessels, either aiming by hand or lashing tripods to the ship's rails or other deck fittings. It even refers to recoil mounted field artillery pieces in transit, suggesting that whilst they might possibly be secured on deck for such purposes, their use is not recommended.

A fantastic document printed in December 1915, and just one of a very low run of only 500 copies.

I am also including an amendment sheet concerning rifles aboard vessels and taking care not to let their proximity interfere with the ship's compasses.

From a rare archive of fascinating WW1 documents I have in my possession, relating to various aspects of trench warfare. They have survived well, with some areas of rust staining from paper clips and pins due to a century of lying in storage.

In excellent condition.
