This once surely belonged to a young man in Queen Victoria's Royal Navy, who was a very proud Scots man.

I have collected these for many years, Georgian and Victorian, but this is the only one that so clearly belonged to a Scotsman, with it's beautifully engraved Scottish thistle either side of the keel.
It's a shame he never had his name or initials engraved in the vacant cartouche - although it may have been passed on to fellow countrymen or even relatives, and the symbol was enough - mid Victorian Britain was a very tough hard life, and something like this would have been treasured.

Snagged anchor sign on the drum, for the Royal Navy, by probably the Silversmith most associated with the Bosun's Call, Hilliard & Thomason, 1875.

Measurers approx 11.5cm in length and weighs approx 19g.

Beautiful piece.

Thank you
