For sale is Every Man Dies Alone, by German novelist Hans Fallada, author of Little Man, What Now?, which was first published in 1932, the year before Adolf Hitler's rise to power. The book was an immediate success in Germany, where today it is considered to be a modern classic, given its intense descriptions of the last days of the Weimar Republic.

    Based on a true story, this sweeping saga tells the tale of a working class couple in Berlin who decide to take a stand against the Nazis. Hans Fallada wrote the book in a feverish twenty-four days, soon after the end of World War II and his release from a Nazi insane asylum. He did not live to see its publication.
    Book also includes an Afterword telling the shocking story of Hans Fallada's life and excerpts from the original Gestapo files the story is based upon.
