The Traveler or Kinégraphe folding camera by Émile Français 13x18
The Traveler or Folding Kinégraphe was designed and manufactured by Emile Français around 1895. It appeared shortly after the release of the Kinégraphe from the same manufacturer and like it it has a circular shutter fitted with a large rotating disc. It can be referred to as a fin or cheek type device. It is equipped with a large mirror reflex viewfinder. The viewing frame can be adjusted to portrait or landscape shooting mode. The shutter is cocked by a gut string pull located on the bottom of the right side of the front plate. The lens, fitted with a turret diaphragm, is also by Emile Français; it is fixed by bayonets. Mahogany body construction. Burgundy leather gusset. Ornate handle for transport. Size 13x18 cm. Good condition.
