This Fourth Edition, Third Printing is a current copy of the book as it currently sells. The rumors were beginning to flow about the factory closing, and it was apparent that a fourth edition with the Scrimshaw research would need to be included, so the Fourth Edition, First and Second Printings were completed with edits and inclusions of the new Scrimshaw section with sizes and descriptions of the animals used for the images. This Third Printing includes added pages of sizes and weights and knife blade metal materials used in manufacturing. It is almost identical to the second printing of the fourth edition except for the extra inclusions. This current book is Numbered 1165, and will be signed directly by the author. Even though the original published date is 2004, the book has continually gone through updates and revisions, but no major content changes have justified the reissuing/republished date of 2004. This book is a collective gleaning of facts from the Schrade shortline catalogs going back into the 50s and 60s through to the early 2000s. It is simply called, A Catalog History of Schrade Knives, Uncle Henry and Old Timer. Each page is devoted to one model. All UH and OT models ever produced and run in the regular shortline catalogs are represented in this 100 plus page handbook.
The author chose a 5.5” x 8.5” notebook outline format to allow greater ease in using this reference tool and to adjust for future updates and the purchaser/owner’s personal notes. This format also aids in notebook storage either with the small 8.5 x 5.5 3-hole punch as found in supply stores or the elite 8.5 x 5.5 7-hole punch (like the Day-Timer calendar books).
The many features, including heavy duty paper stock, take the guesswork out of the research on any of these highly valued knives. The dates of manufacturing and production" - The prices of the knives through the years, starting and ending Statistics such as closed lengths and blade lengths - The weights of the knives and the sheaths - Appropriate manufacturing nomenclature such as steel and handle materials - Relative value guide, price at end of production and selling price as of 2003-04 - Model tracking and cross pattern manufacturing with comparisons - You will also enjoy the catalog/factory “stories” and insights for each knife - Each page is written in numbered, outline format, in precise, easy to understand language and accurate dates.
This book had been recently edited for minor content and format, and is accurate up to 2004 (2003 was the last printed catalog - to our knowledge). Regular production runs in the New York factory and the Ireland factory stopped in 2003-2004, and this book catalogs those regular runs. Knowing the regular knives in the catalog will help discover knives that are special and not in the catalog. Schrade made it a practice of taking regular production run knives and changing something on them for specials or commemorative knives. For instance, it would not be unusual to find certain knives with blades from other models, especially nearing the closing dates. The book is printed on heavy-stock paper and 7-hole punched ready for your notebook (7-hole or 3-hole), and mailed directly to you (the 7-hole punch fits the 3-hole punch as well).
On this post-published offering, you will also receive electronic copies on a CD of the knife pictures (directly from the author’s own private collection) of each of the models. You will also receive a copy of the price list for 2003-04 that the factory was sending out even though it is a photo copy. "What Makes Schrade a Great Knife" is included, and the author has completed four pages on Schrade's Scrimshaw knives with a complete listing of years, labeled pictures, and descriptions of the Scrimshaws. These pages are now part of the third printing, fourth edition. Note: the Scrimshaws were last drawn in 1997, but the factory continued to use them in random selection for production - no further art work was commissioned after 1997. Once payment is received, the book and price sheet, along with other materials, will be mailed out via USPS Media mail, directly by the author with the title page signed and dated for authenticity. This book number has been put into the regular circa starting at #1165 (Note, the picture is #1117... same book). [The book is actively for sale, so the circa numbers may change without notice as books are sold. Once this one sells, the next one numbered in the series will be posted.]
Each book is signed by the author; please provide the name for the inscription if other than the purchaser.
