Japanese Meiji Period w/ Annotation

Translates to roughly the 17th day of the 32nd (or 34th) month of Meiji, which should place this around the fall of 1871. The two isolated characters are likely the key to identifying the purpose of the photograph.

Unclear if this is a medical preparation (the bones are bleached and hung as such) or recording some political uprising or crime.

Measures 2.5 x just over 4”. Consistent toning to borders w/ evidence of moisture to board that does not affect the image but the back paper.
