Vintage iron string line marker, Iron, fully functional, with rusty patina intact.
Still superbly practical way to mark any straight lines needed in the garden or allotment, for lawn edges or for sowing seeds. The top part holding the string/twine rotates around the central pin. Just attach the end of the string to a stake in the ground and unwind to create your straight line.

Interestingly, this is one of the tools symbolised in the Masons (quoting Wikipedia - "In some Grand Lodges' adopted forms of the Ritual, which vary from one Grand Lodge to another, the Skirret is one of the 'Working Tools' presented to a Master Mason. This is not one of the universally recognized 'Working Tools', used in the Ritual of all Grand Lodges"
