Brown sueded brown boards with embossed head of Chief Vancouver and lettering to front cover.

Front cover chipped along leading edge. Spine taped with very old tape. Cover shows stain.
Front hinge is split but body not loose.

As a bonus, glued onto the first end paper is a very old and yellowed newspaper article about the author. Date unknown.

Title page has previous owner's name and small piece missing at the edge.
Interior body is tight with no writing inside.  Pages clean and bright showing no fading. Minor yellowing along bottom edge
on a very few pages,

Back end papers split 2" up from bottom, and 1" from top.

Back hinge tight and undamaged.

138 pages. Black and white ink illustrations throughout.

Emily Pauline Johnson, also known by her Mohawk stage name Tekahionwake, was a Canadian poet, author, and performer who was popular in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Her father was a hereditary Mohawk chief of mixed ancestry and her mother was an English immigrant.
