Pocket Watch Waltham 1881 Size 14s 7 Jewel Key Wind Sterling Silver Hunter Working

This is an old Waltham pocket watch in excellent condition. It is key wind and set (key included) with a machine engraved sterling silver hunter case. The case has English hallmarks for sterling silver Birmingham 1881 with the makers mark “A.B” used in Birmingham by the Dennison Watch Case Co (a watch case maker closely associated with the Waltham Watch Company) and the serial number “610” stamped on the inside and measures 48.9mm in diameter (not including the pendant) and 16.7mm thick. The case is in excellent condition with very little wear to the engine turned decoration (which is unusual in a 143 year old watch) with no significant dents or scratches (see photos). The watch does not have any engraving in the case (see photos). All lids close snugly and the hinges are strong and tight. Both the front lid catch and case spring function correctly with the catch holding the front cover closed securely and the cover springing open when the pendant button is pressed. The porcelain dial is in good condition with no visible chips however there one faintly visible hairline crack (see photos). The watch has a glass crystal in excellent condition with no chips or scratches. The movement is in excellent clean condition and has the following markings "Am. Watch Co, Waltham Mass", “Pat. Pinion” and the serial number 1,625,782. This serial number shows the movement was made in 1881 (which matches the date of the case indicating that the movement is likely original to the case) and is a model 1876, American Watch Co grade, size 14s with 7 jewels.

The watch works, and I have wound and run it for 24 hours on my desk, and it appeared to keep time to within a couple of minutes. The watch has not been cleaned or serviced and so is sold as is.

This is a vintage item and therefore has wear. It is offered as is without guarantee other than an honest description. I do offer a refund policy, if you are not entirely satisfied and contact me within 7 days of receiving the watch I am happy to refund the purchase price of the watch (but not the postage costs) when it has been returned. I will only refund postage costs if I have made an error in my description of the watch.

Please ask any questions before bidding and I will do my best to answer queries promptly.
