This is a small boxed slice of the Gibeon Meteorite

Gibeon is a VERY well known iron meteorite that fell in Namibia and was found in 1838 but was thought to have fallen many thouands of years earlier.

It was discovered by the local Nama people who used it to make tools and weapons.

The total known weight is 26000 Kilograms

The  cut and etched fragment you will receive weighs 2.65 grams-
and measures 1.5cm across  at it's widest point

You can easily view the Widmanstatten pattern - the crystalline patterning within the metal
This is indicative of an iron meteorite as it is not found in terrestrial metal
it was created over many thousands of years as the iron cooled slowly as it travelled through space...

Comes in a padded and labelled gem jar.

Guaranteed genuine - complete with signed certificate of authenticity - complete with a unique holographic serial number

Gibeon used to be a very common meteorite for sale, but it has become more and more scarce and there is now not a huge amount available
This is old stock I bought many years ago and when its gone, its gone!

This was written  by Mark Ford - Secretary of the BIMS (British And Irish Meteorite Society) and gives a useful overview of meteorites.
It will offer no revelations to a dedicated meteorite buff, but will be indispensable for a complete novice.
