Biography of Prussian officer Johann Jakob Wunsch (1717-1788) who served during the 7 Years War and was one of the most highly decorated officers under Frederick the Great. Titled "Die Kaiserin, der Konig und ihr Offizier" (The Empress, the King and their Officer) has several artistic illustrations and is 251 pages in length. Wunsch served successfully in several engagements rising to the rank of major general and being awarded the Pour le Merite and the Star of the Order of the Black Eagle. He was also made a Knight of the Order of the Black Eagle in 1787 shortly before his death of pneumonia after a lengthy illness in 1788. In generally excellent condition with some exposure discoloration on spine. Has a 1940 dedication on flyleaf and owner's stamp on inside front cover. Tightly bound original from 1939.
