You are looking at a rare 1940's era Shure Brothers S34A model microphone desk stand with a 5 1/2 inch detachable riser that will compliment any older screw on type mic you have as well as all mic clips. You'll notice right away that this 5 1/2 inch detachable riser can be quickly removed depending on your needs.
The S34A model was a fairly common desk stand sold by Shure Brothers only in the 1940's and could be used with smaller to medium sized mics but not ideal for larger sized microphones. The S34A is a lite weight design with a low center of gravity and a classic modern look that really compliments any mic you mount on top.
The S34A eventually evolved into the S38 and then S38B before being discontinued in the late 1970's. This early model is quite hard to find now and this example is very nice.
Pic # 2 shows this very model form a 1940's catalog I have. The S34A has an all aluminum base being virtually corrosion proof and comes with a wooden riser / handle. Both are painted. painted finish.
This particular S-38 stand has extremely lite wear as seen in the pics provided. No dents or corrosion. Virtually zero imperfections on the base. It has been refinished and comes in a black and dark brown paint scheme. The 3 rubber pads are still present and in excellent condition. The riser has the original brass threading on top and it works perfectly. I'd rate the true condition a 9 on a scale of 1 - 10.
This S34A is appx 6 1/2 inches tall X 4 1/4 inches wide.
You can always remove the riser if you need to quickly detach your older screw on mic. Back in the day it was considered taboo to actually hold the mic itself so the handle / riser made it possible to walk around with the mic while live. The riser simply screws into the base with a half turn and stays in place via tension. A very practical design really.
I mounted a 1940's era Universal brand D20H mic on top to give you an idea of how it looks with a medium sized mic. This is the only S34A model stand I currently have and I only get these in every couple years.
