Original Late 1950s to Early 1960s

US Air Force Academy
Colorado Springs, Colo.

Beautifully Detailed Gold and Silver Bullion Threads

US Air Force Academy Hat Badge/Insignia

Produced by Ace Novelty of Tokyo, Japan,

May Have Belonged to the Quarterback of the Falcons Football Team (see photos)

Rare......Don't Miss This One...!!!

The US Air Force Academy located at Colorado Springs, Colo. was the latest service academy and its first graduating class was in the Spring of 1959. Their football team played first in 1955. This hat badge dates back to that time and perhaps no later than the early 1960s when the Ace Novelty Company was producing unit patches and other items for the US armed services, but particularly the US Air Force and had been doing it since the late 1940s.

You can also see that the bottom line where it says Air Force Academy that on the left side there is a "Q" which precedes the word "Air" and a "B" follows on the other end after the word "Academy". That is why I am guessing this belonged to one of the Falcon's early quarterbacks (QB) and was specially ordered for him. This hat badge/patch features gold and silver bullion embroidery on a light blue coarse poplin or over white twill(?) on a black wool felt background/outline with a glued on black twill backing and the Ace Novelty label. This is just an awesomely beautiful, and rare, hat badge/patch.

The badge is very large and measures just under 2-3/8" wide by 3-1/2" high and is beautifully embroidered (see the photos).

Condition Note: Badge insignia is in Very Fine+ to Excellent condition. No issues. It looks like it may not have been previously worn on a visor or garrison hat at all (see photos 6 and 7). The bullion details show little if any tarnish after all that time...The hat badge/patch does not glow under ultra-violet light. If there is any glow at all to the white, it is just an artifact of the photo under UV.... NO GLOW What-So-Ever...

This Air Force Academy hat badge/patch is not a recent reproduction and is absolutely original to the period described. Unfortunately, I do not have the full story - only what I have stated above. This hat badge/patch was carefully stored for decades. If it does not sell I will just add it to my personal collection..!!
