Offering this antique 1800's Stenciled "GOLD LACE FLOUR" Black Tin Bread Box Kitchen Container. This antique tin bread box from the 1800s features an advertising stencil design. Gold graphics on black background are very legible and read "USE/ GOLD LACE/ FLOUR/ MFD. BY/ UTICA MILLING CO." The Utica Milling Company of Utica, Michigan, was originally known as the Canal Roller Mills, built in 1846. The mill was operated by water power from the old Clinton- Kalamazoo Canal. The mill was purchased by the Crissman family in 1881 and operated until 1961. This is an original piece of primitive style advertising folk art. This box is perfect for storing kitchen containers and bread box items. This box has many age consistent scratches and dings which add to its character. The door latch operates properly. The left door cradle hinge is intact and operates. The right hinge cradle has broken off and is missing, but the door still swings open and hangs open on chains with the remaining hinge.
