This is a rare set of binoculars Carl Ziess Jena Delfortem 15 x 70. The serial number 2271176 indicates this pair was made in West Germany in 1938. Other research suggests these are aspherical lenses that Zeiss was experimenting with at the time.

Though they appear to be working, I am listing these for Parts and Repair as they will certainly require restoration of some kind.

These binoculars are in a well used condition and will require some restoration.
º Star shaped imperfection on Right Objective Lens (SEE PHOTO)
º Small blotch of ghosting on Lower Left Ocular Lens
º A piece of deteriorated Bakelite(?) has broken loose inside the Left Chamber (SEE PHOTO) It falls to the bottom when using the binoculars and does not obstruct the view.
º I took photos through each of the Objective Lenses for comparison.
º The leather covering is intact with some cracks apparent and the original black dye has faded to the natural leather color.

The right eye adjustment works, but the center adjustment wheel is hard to turn.

The case is marked Brownscope New York just above the latch, It may or may not be original.  FYI, regarding the case:
.
The Brownscope Manufacturing Co. was a catalog mail order retailer and storefront retailer and probably importer and perhaps manufacturer of telescopes, binoculars, and microscopes. They do not appear to have incorporated in New York state, nor does “Brownscope” appear to have been trade marked in the USA. Brownscope advertised in magazines as early as 1933 and as late as 1953. Brownscope was located at 24 W. 45th St., NY, NY.“Brownscope” branded 6x15 binoculars made in occupied Japan (so probably 1949-1952) are known.

º The two top leather flaps have separated and are taped together.
º Carrying Case Strap is broken.
º Latch works perfectly.
