A rare George III filigree silver bougie box probably made in Birmingham c1800.  Fabulous quality work with a removable lid with an aperture for the taper coil. Bougie boxes were part of the desk equipage of the era used for melting sealing wax and doubling as a ‘go to bed’ light. 

Condition: The box is in fair collector’s condition with some distortion to the rim and one of the stylized floral buttons which decorate the lid lacking.

Maker: Unmarked c 1800. It is hard to stamp silver marks on filigree silver as it is so delicate and filigree pieces like this are invariably unmarked.
