For auction I have a very large piece of art pottery made by The Burley and Winter Pottery Company of Crooksville, Ohio. The shape is a large jardiniere or floor vase. The jardiniere is quite large as it measure 12 1/4" in diameter and is 9 5/8" tall. The opening or mouth of the vase is 9 5/16" in diameter inside the rim measurement. The bottom measures 6 7/8" in diameter.

This large jardiniere depicts a mottled sage green over a Ochre background glaze that is quite beautiful. Burley Winter Pottery is rarely decorated because the beauty of their work is in their very pleasing shapes and artistic glazes. The mottling is plentiful and covers the entire jardiniere. There is an added decoration in the neck of the jardiniere. There are 3 rows of blocks that resemble bricks. These are located in the neck just under the raised top lip. This gives this jardiniere an Arts & Crafts flair. This is such an Arts & Crafts form that will surely work in that Mission setting. It fits well with an Arts and Crafts theme. Of all the glazes that Burley Winter produced this is the most desirable and hardest to find.

The jardiniere is considered to be in excellent condition as there are no cracks, chips, nicks or dings. Typically you can see mold lines with Burley Winter pieces. This jardiniere is so well executed you can barely see them. The Jardiniere will work well as a floor vase but it is also the top to a pedestal. These Jardinere's were used for both purposes. The piece is unsigned as is the case in most Burley Winter pieces but the glaze on this piece is as good as a signature. I'm sure the buyer will be quite pleased with their purchase.

The original Burley Winter Pottery Company was in business from 1872-1932. It has somewhat of a complex history as there were quite a few potters named Burley in the Ohio Valley area and also several companies with Burley in their names. There were potters dating back as early as 1825 in the Crooksville, Ohio area with the Burley name and even as late as 1988 was under management of the grandsons of W. N. Burley. These are the ancestors to the Original Potter "Burley and Winters". They are making pottery in the same exact building today using some of the same molds that were found. They are using different glazes to establish the difference. They are also signed New Burley Winter.

This vase would look outstanding in any mission, arts and crafts, country or shaker setting. This floor jardiniere, jardiniere was made circa  1900-1920.

This is a very large and heavy jardiniere. It weighs 14 pounds and will be shipped in a box that is roughly 18x18x15. This will be shipped via UPS fully insured and the cost is somewhat high. We are professionals when it comes to shipping as you can see from our feedback. It will be packed for safe delivery to you home or business.

I want to apologize for slowing down my shipping time. Ebay forced me into managed payments in July 2020. I used to get my money in 24 hours. I now get it in 3-4 business days. I was told it would be better for me and my fees would go down. This has been the opposite as my fees have actually increased and now it takes longer for me to receive the payments. Because of this slowdown I will not ship until the payment has made it into my bank account. No store lets you out of the building with the merchandise unless it is paid for.

They are also now charging all sellers a commission of 12.35% on sales tax. Pay Pal used to charge 2.9% payment processing fee but Ebay has changed this to 12.35%. This is an increase of 9.45% on the sales tax portion. They are now making a profit on the sales tax and treating it as a sale which in my eyes is wrong!! They did the same on the shipping charges several years ago. They use to not charge anything and now they are charging 12.35% commission on shipping as well. This has raised the cost to ship items to you, the buyer and this is factored into my shipping charges.

If you feel what Ebay is doing is wrong or you don't agree them please contact Ebay and voice your opinion. Maybe if enough of you do this, they will change their policy.
