A 'country made' Georgian (1790-1800) mahogany brass bound writing slope. This large, robust slope was probably made by a provincial maker although the mahogany is of top quality as are the swan neck carrying handles and has excellent colour and patina. The interior has a replacement green velvet writing surface and a hidden compartment accessed by lifting a panel.
In good overall condition though it has obviously been well-used. There is a screw missing from one of the handles and the lock plate is broken (see photographs). No key.
Dimensions - Length 38cm, Width 26cm, Height 16cm. Weight 3.8kg.
