Used indoors. The remote temperature probe was never placed outside. It has been used in a refrigerator the last 12 years or so. Uses two AA batteries, which last a very long time. Batteries have never corroded in the unit. 

The batteries shown are included, but are probably nearing expiration since they have been installed for many years. If you want to install fresh batteries and don't want these, let me know and I will not include them. They will be included by default.
