I’m selling this exquisite stumpwork watch sampler dating to 1640. I have never seen another this early. It measures 2 inches in diameter and was made to protect the faces of expensive pocket watches. It’s embroidered on a painted linen backing ( look carefully at the Baroque angel in the sky. His face is painted but his wings are embroidered. Not sure of the subject. At first I thought it was Abraham’s sacrifice of Isaac, but I can’t see Isaac. It might be Moses. Suggestions gratefully received!

It’s mounted on later fabric in a gilt frame both of which could be improved on. This really is museum quality. I’ve had it for about 20 years.
