Warhol's Dracula is from the "Myths" series of artworks created in 1981
In Dracula, Warhol pays homage to the legendary vampire Count Dracula, a character made famous by Bram Stoker's classic Gothic novel published in 1897. Dracula has since become an enduring symbol of horror, seduction, and the supernatural in literature, film, and popular culture. Warhol's portrayal of Dracula captures the enigmatic and alluring essence of this iconic figure, presenting him as both menacing and magnetic.
The Myths Portfolio consists of ten fictional characters from twentieth Century pop culture. Warhol chose from classic Hollywood films, literature and television to reflect and transform true American idols into Pop Art icons. As a child he found comfort in Superman comics - an unlikely hero he idolized.
The Myths Portfolio encompasses Warhol's personal life experience and the magic of 20th Century American Pop Culture.
