Organized Under the Laws of the State of New York - MINES IN EL DORADO COUNTY, CALIFORNIA (printed at center). Corporate seal punched lightly into right side. Stock# 235, issued to Calvin C. Spencer for 556 shares valued at $5 each - just 20 years after the original gold discovery at Sutters Mill, which started the rush to California. Signed by John B. Church as company president. Early 25 cent Internal Revenue stamp affixed to left side.

The Church Union Mine was located in the famous Mother Lode Gold Belt in the Sierra Nevada foothills of western El Dorado County. The ore veins contained free-milling gold and pyrite. The richest veins were the Poundstone, McCosmic, Klondyke and Kidney.  *** RARE ***
