Early cloisonne plate, beautifully decorated, as follows;

Superb craftsmanship, hand - decorated plate on raised circular foot. Shallow basin, profusely decorated in four border panels around a centre section.
These panels may represent the seasons or passing of the year.
Two sections, on opposing sides, have black backgrounds. Two sections, on opposing sides, have reddish brown backgrounds. The former is decorated with multi coloured petal / stamen shapes, contrasting sharply with the 'night' background.
The former offers more background decoration with highlighted foreground shapes.
Then in the centre, we have high summer, light, bright blue skies, birds and butterflies in the air over large blossoms in full bloom. The border of the centre piece is a series of semi circles, that 'lifts' it above the surrounding panels.
The artist shows their skill, and provides a representative story, more than just a one - glance decorative piece. For context, these are cherished items, objects of status, in a society of extremes.
The reverse is also enamelled and decorated with cloud representations in swirls.

This plate measures approx 24.5cm in diameter. It is uncleaned.
