This antique, hand-carved, wooden peg doll, also known as a Penny Doll among other names, is in the style of Grodnertal of Germany, and is from around the turn of the last century. It is mostly likely from New England. She has a pretty face compared to some dolls of this type. Eyebrows are everything! Her joints are stiff and I would not advise trying to pose her. Her arms and legs are painted white and you can see where her shoes were once suggested with pink or red paint. For being so crudely made she is rather lovely. Primitive yet with a beautifully painted serene expression. 12” tall.
