A note about Eisenhower Dollars: Eisenhower Dollars both 40% silver (also known as silver/clad) and totally copper/nickel (also known as just Clad) are very collectible. The composition of the majority of Eisenhower Dollars are totally copper/nickel (clad). Of the nearly 700 million Eisenhowers minted from 1971 to 1978 only about 4% (28 million) were produced as 40% silver. With very, very few exceptions (mistakes made by the mint), all 40% silver Eisenhowers were minted in San Francisco from 1971 to 1976 and have the “S” mint mark.  “D” (Denver mint) and no mint mark (Philadelphia mint) Eisenhowers as well as, all 1977 and 1978 Eisenhowers are totally copper/nickel (clad) with no silver content. The last 40% silver Eisenhowers were minted in San Francisco in 1976 (Bicentennials).
