A Meissen porcelain square tureen and cover, in the beautiful Blue Onion pattern in that strong cobalt blue, contrasting so well with the clean white background.

Organic decoration, leaves, flowers and fruits.

This is a good size piece, deep, and the square shape is uncommon.

Difficult to age accurately, the Blue Onion design has been in use since c1730. This is quite a large, heavy example and we think this is about a hundred years later.

Meissen mark and impressed marks to base.

The base is approx 25.5cm x 25.5cm.

The cover obviously bares the same design, with a beautifully curved handle, tipped each side with blue.
