Rat Tube-10 Amplifier, Modified by Andy at Rat electronics.

Great little amp with Rat mods, sounds great.

Not perfect, has its idiosyncrasies, but it has charm and Andy modded it so sounds great and should continue to be reliable.

I couldn’t find anything about it but Andy kindly explained the history and mods behind it:

Hi - About 15 years ago I purchased about 90 of these Amps from a company called 'intermusic' (in the UK). They had imported the Amps from China and were badged as 'Shine' - 'Tube 10' (Shine is an in-house brand from the Korean Saein factory, but they also have a factory in China). The Amps were not fit for purpose and were a giant Pain in the Ass for 'Intermusic', being very unreliable and mostly Faulty right out of the Box.

I did many different Modifications to these Amps over the period that I was selling them, too many to remember. However, there were some common problems that I rectified. The Metal Shield behind the Valves was fabricated by me, as the main cause of problems was the Speaker 'Blasting' the 2x EL84 Power Valves and rendering them useless after a very short time. I seem to remember that there were some safety issues which were corrected, Fuses, Wiring, Plastic PCB (Internal) Connectors that melted, incorrect earthing and general crap Chinese lack of attention to detail. I also added a 'Half Power' Switch (Triode/Pentode). Although the Amp is rated at 10 Watts, it produces about 18 Watts (or more) power output and needs to be connected to a larger external speaker to get the best out of the Amp. I think the additional Speaker output was fitted by me. The Preamp 'Gain' was also increased. The Valve heaters were AC and caused Hideous 'BUZZ' in the Amp, I converted the Heaters to DC which mostly got rid of the Hum/Buzz problem. Some of the Amps had an 'L-PAD' fitted (Speaker Attenuator). Some Amps might (?) have had a 'Gain' Switch. I'm now struggling to remember any other Modifications. Hope all that helps. Cheers Andy
