ROYAL DOULTON RACK/DINNER PLATE

ITEM:  Royal Doulton rack or dinner plate. Made in England by Doulton in the Series Ware pattern called  "Ploughing". Collectable series.

DESCRIPTION: The plate is round in shape with a smooth rim. The plate has a lime green trim around the rim. The scene depicted on the plate is a farmer and his two horses ploughing a field. The scene is transfer printed. This series is described by Louise Irvine in her Royal Doulton Series Ware books, (Vol 2, Pages 97-98). This is Scene 3 (of 6), "Ploughman adjusting his plough". 

Note that the photos provided form part of the description. Any shiny spots or white marks are from the camera shots, not blemishes on the item. 

MATERIAL: Earthenware.

COLOURING: On a cream ground, and other colours of yellow, green, brown, grey, pink. 

MEASUREMENTS: The plate is 2 cms deep and 26.5 cms in diameter.

CONDITION: Has no chips, cracks, crazing, restoration or staining. There are several usage marks to the front surface, minor in my opinion. The green trim is intact. Nice plate in good vintage condition in my opinion.

MARKINGS: The bottom of the plate has the Royal Doulton lion and crown back stamp, and the registration number, "D5650" , plus there is an impressed date, "6.36". Manufactured June, 1936. 

AGE:  See above. 88 Years old.

GENERAL COMMENTS: Lovely collectable from a by-gone era. Good addition to your collection at a reasonable start price.
