Signed 76"X74" C.1840 Hand Embroidered Kashmir Paisley Shawl Textile - NICE!

This Truly Gorgeous Victorian Era antique hand woven pieced Persian boteh shawl dates to the mid 19th century.  Kashmir handmade shawls are textiles handcrafted by skilled artisans with fine wool and sometimes silk threads and they are usually pieced together as a patch work. This one is made of a soft fine pashmina goat's fleece wool.

This most outstanding shawl measures 76" X 74" and the black center measures 25" square..

Completely hand loomed, stitched & embroidered, it was flat loom woven with a vast array of natural dyed colors of strong, vivid & vibrant tones, including the rarely seen purple lavender coloration (which was used in great abundance here)!!

As you can see, this stunning Kashmiri square shawl (or coverlet) features especially close workmanship and fine details!!

It is signed in (3) places, please see images #2 & 3#...

All hand embroidered and all then pieced together by hand, one can only imagine how many scores of hours of skilled labor were required to accomplish this most exquisite textile (some 170 years ago)!!  There is a large 25" black wool square center with patchwork style small pieces at the edge with Indian paisley designs.

The (3 1/2" wide) beautiful fringed decorative patchwork border surrounding the loomed flat woven portion, has tiny 1/8" sized stitching, exhibiting mind blowing detail!!!

These paisley shawls were made in Kashmir, Persia and also India.  They were immensely popular during the mid 1800s and later copied by the Scottish Weaving Center in Paisley, Scotland, hence the name..

Textiles of this type, age and quality are rarely found in excellent condition but we are pleased to offer such a well preserved specimen for your consideration.

This textile remains in truly excellent condition, with no holes, no textile degradation, weakness or rotting, no looseness at the patchwork joins or other significant flaws at all!!

The (2) most major condition factors are well shown in the final (2) detail images, and they are minor in the extreme!!

You note that (2) places to the edge trim have a small (1/2" &  3/4") tear present...  Also, close inspection of the black center area shows (2) early repairs measuring about 1" in size...  It lays perfectly flat without any puckering, was been expertly made and is amazingly well preserved!!

This weaving was very well looked over for 20 minutes and there are no tears, at all!  Simply amazing, really!!!

This is one extraordinary and rare antique piece of signed paisley textile art, indeed!

I have been dealing in antiques for over 35 years now and it is (by far) the best preserved example that I have ever owned!!  And, it is the most finely worked example that I have owned, or even seen, in the flesh!!

Condition remains outstanding in every respect with no strong odors, textile degradation, no embroidery unraveling, holes, tears, no gross fringe losses or other flaws. In some of the photos you see, the fringe is tucked beneath the textile patch edges, but this remains a nearly 100% fully fringed example!!
