On offer here is this pair of antique
Chinese carved stone temple statutes.
Circa 1750.
32cm X 16cm X 10cm

These stunning Chinese Carvings are each carved from one piece of stone, which we think is black basalt, they both depict a dog of Fo or lion sitting on top of a temple drum resting on top of a cushion then on a decorative base. The Carvings around the drum are stylised clouds with a flower in the middle with decoration around the outer ridge of the drum as well as the base.

They would have been used as feng shui statues and placed outside on either side of the door to the temple to ward of evil spirits.

They are beautifully carved the style of carving dates them to somewhere around the middle of the 18th century. I’ve had them appraised by a reputable auction house who put them at early to mid 18th century. It could easily be earlier they have a rich Patination.

Extremely decorative good age, beautiful Patination these wonderful statues could now be used as decoration inside or outside as they are from a temple they do have a religious significance as well.

if you look on the Internet you’ll see that the statues commander very high price. It’s hard to find anything for under the £2,000-£3000 range. And these are definitely older than most of the ones on offer but I’m not greedy. Happy to sell them on for a fair price.
