The item in question is the lid (only) for a Panavision Panaflex 2000 film magazine, decked out with Stan Lee's name and seventeen Marvel movie logos As the name suggests, this magazine held a 2000 foot roll of 35mm film. They are rare and I've never seen one in a production still, so I assume they were rarely rented. A loaded 1000 foot mag weighs a lot, this one must have weighed a ton. The cover alone weights about 7 lbs and measures 25.5 x 16”. The last two photos show one of them on a Panaflex Gold ll at an event the company held for film industry folks at their Woodland Hills HQ.

I acquired this item from someone who presented himself as a former assistant to Stan Lee. He said Lee gave it to him because he was really into movies and that Lee got it from Panavision.  He knew nothing more, and an attempt to contact someone at Panavision who could tell me more was ignored.

This was definitely made by Panavision, either for presentation purposes or to use on a shoot. The company has been known to do things like this - there are photos a special black-painted Millennium camera and magazine(s) they did up for one of the Star Wars films. If this one was used on a film it shows only a slight signs of handling. The paint is super-fresh and bright, no chips. The raised edges of the soundproofing foam are very normal for older magazines. It may well have been done as part of some tribute event for Mr. Lee. If so I've found nothing about it online.

Looking closely, the Panavision trademark lettering and each Marvel movie logo are etched into the metal and paint filled. This is clearly a factory job, not some aftermarket fanboy thing.

Are there more of them? Don't know.
