A fantastic reverse decoupaged mirror in oak frame with rococo style faun and cherubs playing amongst scrolling floral motifs and birds.

It is surprisingly rare to find a reverse decoupage mirror - in fact I've struggled to find a single other example with the decoration behind glass.

Upon first glance most would assume its reverse painted, but instead intricate pieces of paper have been cut and placed.

Likely taken from a hand coloured lithograph that showcased rococo designs and architectural details.

The style of the decoration leads me to think French 18th century rococo however is more likely to be a 19th century piece - and possibly German rather than French?

The mirror itself has a wavy surface and some bubbling as expected for its age.

Frame: 62 x 52 x 6 cm - Mirror: 49.5 x 39.5 cm - Weight: 4.3 kg

Some wear to the gilt surround and light scratches to mirror along with spots of dirt behind the glass - I have not taken it apart.
