D-25 is one of the best Discmans ever made, if you Google the reviews it stands its own against The King, D-555... some say it is because of its 4x oversampling digital filter.
The most noticeable disadvantage of D-25 compared to my favorite Discmans is its headphone amplifier. 9mW into 32 Ohm (same as in D-Z555) is way better than anything you find in later models, but still no match to 30mW pumped out by D-50MkII, D-10, or Technics SL-XP5. For this particular D-25 situation was corrected by Schiit Magni "Heretic" h/p amplifier. To make things look neat, short interconnect and mini-rack is a must. Two-tier mini-rack was custom built, inspired by Burson Audio "Mothership" rack but re-imagined for the "Heresy" edition of Magni amplifier
D-25: Sled gears and spindle motor completely disassembled, cleaned and oiled, laser re-calibrated. Full recap, headphone coupling upgraded to 220uF Rubycon electrolytics. Markings and screws painted Red as deemed appropriate for this custom set
BP-2 battery: original 450mAh Sony BP-2 was restored with 1,500mAh LiPo cell, charging circuit was modified for safe Li-Ion cell charging by the Discman itself. Battery provides over 7(seven) hours of play. Please note that BP-2 battery is being charged only when Discman is in STOP/Standby mode. To improve Discman's sound quality, charging circuit disengaged when D-25 is playing music. The best sound quality is achieved when ac/dc adapter is disconnected and Discman is powered by the battery
Schiit Magni "Heretic": New/Open Box. My personal "Heretic" was used for the photo-shoot. "Heretic" being sold here is Brand New. Box was opened to add RED shrink-wrap to 12V ac power supply tip. 12V ac wall-wart should NEVER be used to power D-25!!!
