RARE MCKEE GLASS
NAVARRE PRINCE ALBERT RUBY STAIN PAN AMERICAN TOOTHPICK HOLDER
A
beautiful and rare piece of early American made pattern glass (EAPG) in the
form of a lovely little toothpick holder.
It is a quality piece of pressed glass and was made by the McKee &
Bros. Glass Company, formerly of Jeanette, Pennsylvania, when they were part of
the National Glass combine (Factory # 12).
In In over forty years of collecting, I have personally only seen two of
these in this pattern. It is made in a clear
colored glass and the pattern is called “Navarre,” but is also known as “Prince
Albert” and is decorated with ruby stain around the top rim. The ruby stain is engraved as follows: on one
side “Mrs. J. L. Crowell” and on the other side “Pan American 1901,” so this was
obviously a souvenir from the Pan American Exposition held in 1901 in Buffalo,
New York. The piece in my photos is the
actual item you will receive. This piece
has been part of my personal toothpick holder collection since 2014. Please be sure to read the “Age and Condition” & “Approximate Dimensions” paragraphs below. Also, please read about our multiple purchase
discount under the “PAYMENT, SHIPPING, Insurance & PACKAGING” paragraph below.
If
you are not familiar with the NTHCS (National Toothpick Holder Collectors’
Society) it is a great organization and you can learn more about them and
collecting toothpick holders at their website.
I
do my best to describe all items as accurately as possible and to the best of
my ability. Some of my photos may be
somewhat lighter or darker than actual to better show detail or color. However, do not hesitate to contact me with
any questions, comments, or with requests for additional pictures. I will get back to you as soon as I am
able. I want your transaction with me to
be exactly the way I want mine to be when I am the buyer.

Age and Condition
This
piece dates to circa 1901.
It
is in excellent mint condition. Please
look closely at the photos as they are an important part of my description of
this item. There are some appropriate
age-related signs of wear or use to the underside of the foot where the piece
sits. Otherwise, there are no chips,
flea bites, cracks, hairlines, or repairs to the glass – see my photos. I also see no obvious signs of wear or loss
to the ruby stain. Please keep in mind
these photos may be blown up at least 8-10 times normal, so anything you see
will look 8-10 times larger in the photos than it really is.
Please
note: if you see a dark spot in the photos, it is from my camera and is not a
mark on the piece. It will be either
just to the right of center towards the bottom or slightly above center on the
right side of the photo.
Approximate Dimensions
About
2.25” (2.25 cm) across at the top rim and sits about 2.375” (6 cm) off the
table.
Approximate Weight
About
3.25 ounces (927 grams).
