Divisional Series (ALDS) Game 1 pitched baseball during
the 5th inning against Tampa Bay Rays center
fielder Kevin Kiermaier during Game 1 of the 2019 ALDS
on 10/4/2019. Justin Verlander pitched this baseball (a 96
MPH fastball) for a foul ball to Kiermaier. Verlander would
go on to strike out Kiermaier to end the 5th inning and win
Game 1. Verlander also was named the 2019 American
League (AL) Cy Young award winner, given to the best
pitcher in the league.


After the pitch by Verlander, the baseball was then removed from play and authenticated by Major League Baseball following the hit with a tamper-proof hologram. The MLB Authentication record (reflected by hologram number (VS073256) shown in the pictures above and can be found on the online MLB Authentication database.
