Jews have been connected to this city for more than 800 years, and may even have been here (like in Budapest) with the Roman legions. Since the 1700s it has been an important center for organized Jewish life. Hebrew and Yiddish book printing thrived — always a mark of a community’s importance. In the 100 years between 1830 and 1930, about 340 Jewish books appeared, as well as Hebrew and Yiddish newspapers and magazines.

(mark "13" indicates 800/1000 silver standard, lower than sterling).

CORRECT STYLE REPLACED ANTIQUE SOLID SILVER BOBECHES, FIT A BIT LOOSELY, BUT FULLY FUNCTIONAL.

EACH CANDLESTICK IS APPROXIMATELY 16 1/2 in. (41.9 cm) TALL.

EACH BASE IS ABOUT 9 1/2 in. (24.1 cm) WIDE INCLUDING FEET.

WEIGHT:

TOTAL WEIGHT OF SILVER IS ABOUT 58.7 TROY OZ - 1826 GRAMS.

CANDLESTICKS ARE NOT WEIGHTED (hollow inside), FEELS SOLID, MADE OF HEAVY GAUGE SILVER.

CONDITION:

Very good original antique condition with normal wear and charming indication of age. Normal expected handling marks and scratches.

Two noticeable dents to the side on one candlestick (should be easy to fix if desire - please see last picture).

Very difficult to photograph - all dark spots you are seeing in the pictures is just a reflection and light tarnishing.
