The Difference is in the Material Used:

These parts are made of DELRIN®/DuPond™ (a high-performance engineering polymer used in precision parts requiring high stiffness, low friction and excellent dimensional stability) used in industries for automobiles, planes, boats, aerospace, etc.  It is a common replacement for metal in many applications such as gears, pulleys, impellers, etc.

Able to withstand 9,000 psi tensile strength and 3,500 psi  compressive strength, it is more than 350 times the working force that have to withstand in the engine

Important Note about part compatibility:

Depending on the assembly plant where your Audi or VW was manufactured, the same exact model/year car may need a short (1 inch) or a long (2 inch) link arm.

Please make sure you are ordering the correct size link arm by measuring your current link arm, or asking your mechanic or car dealer. 

 The dimension is an estimate distance from center to center of the concave half-spheres of the link arm.

Be Advised: There are metal link arms on the market, not originally designed for this use, which will damage other parts of the system and will cost you more in the long run. Metal link arms at lower price points are not treated/polished properly which causes them to corrode the ball joints to which they attach and will end up causing you to buy an entire new kit.

The mechanism where link arms operate is subject to high temperatures and continuous movement. These conditions will quickly wear-off any lubrication which will cause the link arm to act as a file and will quickly erode the ball joint to which the link arm is attached.

Due to the wear of the metal, the ball joint will shrink in size, causing the link arm to fall out. After the ball joint has worn down because of the metal, your only option will be to buy a whole new kit; including the diaphragm, pivot lever and link arm, which the manufacturer sells for more than $400.

  Typically, the O.E.M. part is not sold alone – car dealers only sell it in a kit (P/N 077198327a) which costs around $400 per side (most cars require replacement on both sides, totaling in $800!!!)

This listing is for a 2-piece set of “short” nominal 1" (for reference proposes only) intake manifold linkage arms – Part #AVW1312 (see pictures). Both sides can be replaced with a single set.

The installation is fast and easy, simply remove the damaged part (you may need a screwdriver or pliers) and snap the end links of the new part onto the actuators. That is all!
