DESCRIPTION:

Walter Flory is one of those interesting flowers that can be a medium pink or a light pink, and sometimes  can bloom with two different shades of flowers at the same time.  It is a medium to large crinum with stunning, bi-colored flowers that are either white with a pink blush or a medium pink with slightly darker burgundy pink stripes.  The flowers have a white center, green petal tips and white stamens.  The scapes are strong and it forms regular offset bulbs once the bulbs mature.  We have observed as many as 18 flowers on 34" tall scapes that open sequentially.  Mature bulbs grow to over 5" in diameter.  It appears to be seed sterile and the pollen is somewhat fertile if used on other seed producing crinum.  It is a reliable bloomer from April - September here in zone 9, northeast Florida.  This is being offered by us on eBay for the first time in 2014.

Currently we grow over 1000 varieties of crinum and have one of the largest collections in the world including about 350 of our own hybrids.

BACKGROUND:

Walter Flory was hybridized by the late Katherine Clint that crossed Ellen Bosanquet with a white powellii (powelii is crinum moorei crossed with crinum bulbispermum).  Nobody is quite sure what plants were used to make Ellen Bosanquet, but most likely there is some moorei and scabrum at least.

GROWING CONDITIONS:

Bulbs thrive on rich, loamy ground.  They will do fine in sun or parital shace.  This should do fine to Zone 7 and will need protection in colder areas.  It will grow fine in a pot, but would have to be kept out of freezing weather.
