If you have been spearfishing long, you know the heartache of the big one that got away because of a tear-out or worse a snapped line when he got away with your shaft in-tow. High tensile strength line is no match for a decent sized fish on the run if there is nothing to cushion the shock when he hits the end of the line. Even if the line holds there is a good chance of a tearout. Most speargun bungees do little to help. They are made with flimsy rubber and they only stretch a couple of inches. In truth most bungees are little more than tensioners to tighten a wrapped line.
