The Jigboard 1000 – Our Most Popular Jigsaw Board

Our own make of puzzle boards are known as Jigboards and the Jigboard 1000 will accommodate most puzzles up to 1,000 pieces. The interior measurements of the board are 29.5” by 20.5” (750mm x 520mm). You can read all about the many advantages of using a Jigboard here.

This is our best-selling Jigboard in the UK because most of the 1,000 puzzles made by European manufacturers such as Gibsons, Grovely, House of Puzzles Jumbo/Falcon, Ravensburger and Clementoni will all fit onto it.

Oversize Puzzles

Where a problem arises is with some of the American manufacturers. In the USA there seems to be a trend amongst puzzle manufacturers to make their puzzles ever larger and we now find that Springbok, SunsOut Puzzles and White Mountain Puzzles all exceed the size of our 1000 piece jigsaw board. If you are intending to make-up some of these larger US puzzles then we suggest you consider buying the larger size of Jigboard – the 1500 size.

If recent history is anything to go by, we expect the European manufacturers will continue with the existing sizes but it might be that more and more American puzzles are made bigger. This is largely because of the different standards that exist for paper sizes and which also apply to the cardboard that jigsaws are made from. For those of you with a technical mind you might like to know that most of the world adheres to a paper size standard known as ISO 216 but America has gone it alone with a different system.

Should I Buy a Jigboard or a Jigsort?

People often ask us whether they should buy a Jigboard or a Jigsort and we tell them that this depends on whether or not they need to pack away a part completed puzzle. If you are sure that you have the space in your home to have a puzzle laid out flat on a board until it has been completed then a Jigboard is probably the right choice. On the other hand if you might need to pack a puzzle away and store it vertically in a cupboard or spare room then your best bet is a Jigsort
