If you are installing on pre 1993 saddle bags you need to request 2 extra 3/4" screws with your order. There is no charge for the extra screws if you inform me before I ship.

I normally ship within 1 business day; however, eBay had me change the handling time to 4 days to cancel the guaranteed delivery being displayed on my listing. Guaranteed delivery is an impossible idea that I simply cannot agree to because once I do my job and get your order in the Post Office, I have no control over the package. Please follow tracking of your order and if the Post Office shows that the order was delivered and you do not have it, immediately contact your Post office and find out where they delivered it. Please do not waste any time in tracking down your order. Your Post Office will likely be able to help if you act promptly. International orders that are over (3) three weeks from purchase date need to have a claim started with eBay before 30 days from purchase date. eBay Global shipping guarantees international orders but will not help you after 30 days from purchase date.

Caution My Fellow Riders: Do not use an oversize #8 or #6 pan head screw with the hasp.   It will damage your lid edge. The bottom of the hole is already too close to the bottom of the lid and enlarging the hole for a #8 screw will require the hole in the lid to be enlarged for a #8 screw and can damage the lid. Also, when comparing  a pan head screw to a button head screw that comes with my kit, you can see the head of the pan head screw is much larger. Since the pan head is too large, when closing the lid, it will depress the top of the pan causing severe scraping and a misalignment of the latch. I offer this advice because I care and know my design works. My screw sizes that I supply with my listings are the correct size and are on thousands of latches out there. I even include a set of directions within the screw bag to help you use the correct screw length for the position needed. If your tour pack or saddlebags are older than 1997, you should contact me prior to purchasing as I will be happy to advise you which hasp to request with your order. If you can attach pictures of what you are working on, it will be to your benefit. I am happy to ship the 1401U hasp or the (1405 = 1401M) hasp instead of the 1406 that automatically ships with all orders if you do not request the change. I you are ordering for 1992 or older saddlebags, you will also need to request 2 extra 3/4" screws with the order. No extra charge and happy to include if asked for before I ship, There is no charge for my advise or the substitute of the hasp that you may require.

The red tour pack lid shows how a loose hasp will ruin your day and tour pack lid.

Harley rivets become loose and make holes bigger and bigger.

A #8 screw will make the hole larger than my hasp screw.

A #6 screw will come loose because the hasp does not have the correct size hole for tapping.

Using Self-Tapping Screws on the latch creates a high probability of weakening the stand-off causing premature latch failure. I totally discourage using self-tapping screws.

This listing is for two new Harley OEM latches, properly tapped for the included machine screws of correct length.

Latches are manufactured by Franzen, supplier to Harley.

Included in this listing:

Two (2) Chrome polished finished, Franzen latches, properly tapped

           Two (2) full length machine screws for front mounting

       Two (4) full length machine screws for rear mounting or forward mounting without lock catch.

                              Two (2) 1406 Hasp tapped for machine screws using a low profile head and not a Phillips head screw which is too large and will cause considerable scraping on the top of the tour pack pan.

Hasps includes new backing plates.

 Two Allen wrenches: one for hasp screws and one for latch and spacer screws. 

Spacer screws included with washers and lock nuts. Yes, the spacer should be attached prior to latch attachment. This is totally your choice.

Note: If your spacer is Pre-2007 you may require a minor modification as outlined in my directions.

Note: If you have a Franzen hasp attached and rivets are secured tightly, this latch will mate

with your existing hasp from 1994/1996 to 2013.

 

     Presto hasps used prior to 1994/1996 had 2 different mounting configurations.

If you have one of these, contact me prior to purchasing. I have replacements for all hasps used at no additional cost and gladly substitute them if requested prior to shipping.

     

    Franzen hasps from 1994 until 1996 had a slightly different mounting configuration.

THIS LATCH WILL FIT THE NEW SPACERS AS WELL AS THE OLD SPACERS WITH A MINOR MODIFICATION TO THE OLD PLASTIC SPACER WHICH I WILL EXPLAIN IN THE NEW DIRECTION SHEET.

THEY WILL REPLACE THE OLDER STYLE LATCH MADE BY PRESTO BECAUSE THIS LISTING DOES COME WITH A LID MOUNTED HASP. THE OLDER STYLE PRESTO LATCH LOOKS SIMILAR BUT PART OF THE UPPER HASP SHOWS THROUGH THE LATCH FACE WHEN CLOSED. WHEN ORDERING TO REPLACE THE PRESTO LATCH, YOU SHOULD NORMALLY ASK FOR A CHANGE TO THE 1401M HASP=1405 HASP WHEN MAKING YOUR PAYMENT OR CONTACT ME BEFORE ORDERING IF YOU ARE NOT SURE OF THE HASP YOU NEED. IN A FEW RARE CASES YOU MAY NEED THE 1401U (UNMODIFIED HASP) THAT HAS SCREW STAND-OFFS ON THE REAR OF THE HASP SIMILAR TO THE STAND-OFFS FOUND ON THE LATCH. IN THIS CASE YOU SHOULD ASK FOR THE 1401U HASP WHEN ORDERING.

THE FOLLOWING IS VITAL AND MORE IMPORTANT THAN YOU CAN IMAGINE.

THE LOWER LATCH PART THAT ATTACHES TO THE BOTTOM OF THE TOUR PACK, WHEN RECEIVED NEW FROM HARLEY.  THEY HAVE HOLES REQUIRING THE USE OF SELF TAPPING SCREWS.  I HAVE THREADED THE SCREW HOLES MAKING INSTALLING  THEM A BREEZE WITH THE INCLUDED NON-SELF TAPPING SCREWSYOU WILL BE BETTER OFF IF YOU DON'T USE SELF TAPPING SCREWS.

THE TIP OF THE SELF TAPPING SCREWS ARE NOT A FULL THREAD TO THE END WHICH IS A MAJOR REASON FOR POOR GRIPPING AND FAILURE OF THE SCREW! ALSO, SINCE THE NEW STAND-OFFS HAVE BEEN USED, I HAVE FOUND THAT USING SELF-TAPPING SCREWS MAY CAUSE THE STAND-OFF TO BREAK DUE TO THE POOR THREADING ABILITY OF THE SELF-TAPPING SCREW.
