When antennas are buried inside a rack filled with all sorts of electronic equipment, steel and other metals, the signals reaching them can be severely attenuated.  Shure, Sennheiser, Audio-Technica and all major wireless microphone manufacturers recommend the use of "remote" antennas to maximize the reliability of their wireless systems.

Just getting the antennas out of the rack and onto a panel can give you 6db more signal and also makes it easier to get true line of site to the stage - no going through chairs, risers, and people to reach the antennas.
