This preparatory study for a book illustration shows all stylistic criteria of a drawing by the well known German graphic artist Johann Heinrich Ramberg (1763 Hannover- 1840 ibidem).

Johann Heinrich Ramberg (1763 Hanover - 1840 Hanover) had a special talent for improvisation in drawing expressing his lively sense of humour and satire. He was attracted to English art of drawing, especially to caricature (f.ex. Rowlandson). After the death of Chodowiecki he became the most popular illustrator in Germany. His works are displayed in the museums of Hannover, Berlin, Dresden, Frankfurt-am-Main, Leipzig, etc.


Condition: In good overall condition, a few slight spots of foxing.
