OUTKAST ATLast - "Still Southernplayalistic"

11" x 14" Open Edition Print (Signed)

This mixed media artwork is to pay homage to the debut album of OUTKAST, Southernplayalisticadillacmuzik, issued on April 26, 1994. Every track on Southernplayalisticadillacmuzik was produced by Organized Noize and featured other members of the Dungeon Family.

"Southern Roots" originally photographed as a Southern Railroad Box Car in East Point, Georgia is adapted to display the name of the duo. The original train car number has not been altered.  This initial effort is credited with laying the foundation for southern hip hop and is considered a classic by many.

Stank You: Sunday, September 28th 2014…the Concert, the City of Atlanta and the Citizens of Atlanta. I would like to say it all started on Fri., the 26th during the 20th Homecoming of The Graduating Class of 1995 from Tri-Cities High School, Home of The Bulldogs, Home of the ‘insert explicit lyric here’ OUTKAST – when the DJ was playing OUTKAST, the cars passing by were playing OUTKAST and DJ Nabs (who I spent many a night carrying his crates during The Committee/Club Kaya era) was on the Radio w/an OUTKAST Mix…all at the same d*mn time. That is when it dawned on me that maybe it was really 1991 when “these two guys” used to beat on a trash can and rap in cyphers after High School let out – nothing fancy – just two guys doin’ what they love on the same hallowed grounds upon which I stood.

Then came Sat. – after a long Fri. – it was time to setup artwork for the official OUTKAST ATLast Concert After Party at 595 North Event Venue and Lounge, presented by ORGANIZED NOIZE. The Official release of OUTKAST ATLast - “Still Southernplayalistic”,  a limited edition Giclee print was ready to go public. The original artwork had been released in July to good reviews at ARTICULATE ATLanta. Even with positive feedback during the summer; Internally, this was different – it was a different medium, it was in a venue that I have witnessed from it’s genesis and it was ATLanta. By the end of another late night, after all of the flash bulbs, photo bombs and compliments on the artwork – It was very humbling to be the featured visual artist with other creatives that were forms of inspiration – back in the day and now. As I dapped Big Rube and Thanked him, he in turn gave props on the work, “Right On to the Real and Death to the Fakers” became even more profound.
On to Sunday…Centennial Park, site of the 1996 Olympics. First act DJ Smurf, throw in J.Bo from the Youngbloodz, Pastor Troy, Bonecrusher, Killer Mike the turntablism of DJ Nabs and of course the encore by OUTKAST…ATLast – it felt like witnessing bits and pieces of my life onstage, so many memories and a sense of pride in seeing the success of people I have had the pleasure of knowing and being around over the years. The entire experience was down to earth yet out of this world. Stank You Very Much.
